WEEK 3 ASSIGNMENT: LASER CUT TEST TILE
Assignment 3: Laser Cut Test Tile
Due: Sunday January 28, 11:59 pm
Using the 2D pattern you developed last week, etch/engrave and cut the pattern on a 4 x 4 inch piece of flat material. Use this exercise to prototype the material you would like to use for your project development, so that it is a sample for what you will be cutting next week. If that is not possible due to ordering materials online, work with a material like wood just to get some practice on the laser cutting machine. Take advantage of this opportunity to experiment with different etching burns. Make an appointment at the Maker Space to review your files ahead of the cutting time. Create a blog post of this project to present at the beginning of class and bring your tile to next class.
The material chosen should be no thicker than 1/4 inch, recommended to check with Peter and existing samples in the Maker Space + the Bookstore for what is available. Please screenshot the process of your project, include at least one screenshot of Rhino workflow, and one of the developed nested file that you will send the lasercutter, as well as photograph the final piece to upload onto an individual blog post.
TIP: It might be helpful to either (1) ask Peter if there is usable scrap material in the lab, (2) share material purchases with one or two people.
